Alcohol monitoring bracelet hits the runway

karl lagerfeld alcohol monitoring bracelet chanelNow I have seen it all! The alcohol monitoring bracelet, which is usually pegged as an embarrassing thing to wear, is now a fashion accessory. The “accessory” was just spotted in Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel runway show. With celebrities like Eve, Michelle Rodriguez and Lindsay Lohan sporting the court-required anklet, we’ve grown somewhat accustomed plastic black trackers, but to morph it into an accessory — that’s just plain weird.

I know you all will have an opinion on this one. So what do you think: did Karl take this little “joke” too far? Or do you think this DUI device is just a funny pop culture parody?

Bad blood and hair extensions cause rift between Brit and Jessica

What could be better than a celebrity endorsement of another celebrity’s line of hair extensions? A celebrity cat fight!

Following Britney’s infamous head shaving incident, Jessica Simpson sent her former nemesis a set of Jessica Simpson-brand hair extensions.

According to Jessica, she only wanted to helpful. Brit, however, saw the gift as an insult, so she returned the box with an attached note that read, “No Thanks.” Irritating, no?

Oddly enough, Britney recently purchased a set of Simpson’s hair extensions. When word of the purchase reached Jessica, she was apparently further irritated by Brit.

What’s going to happen here, people? Will the two reconcile or will they continue the cat fight? Any thoughts?

Kate Moss mascara ads banned

kate moss rimmel london ad mascaraYou see mascara ads in every magazine from Vogue to US Weekly. In every ad eyelashes are impossibly long, thick and separated. But do the mascaras really do that? Are we even convinced that they do? Not usually, we just flip to the next page and carry on with our day. At least most of us do.After numerous complaints stating that Kate Moss was wearing false eyelashes in her Rimmel ads, the Advertising Standards Authority held an investigation. The investigation was specifically targeted at the ‘Magnif eyes mascara’ ad which boasts that the mascara produces 70% more lift with their ‘unique vertical life brush.’ The ad firm that represents Rimmel, J Walter Thompson, insists that Moss isn’t wearing falsies, but admits that the lashes were enhanced after the shoot.

Although the ASA cannot prove that the lashes were false, they are concerned that Rimmel has failed to provide evidence confirming Kate Moss was not wearing false lashes. The ASA has told Rimmel not to repeat the ad in its present form and has advised them to provide a disclaimer in future ads stating that the lashes were enhanced after the shoot.

Would you wear fingertip gloves?

Leather Finger Tip Gloves

I have seen these gloves on Patricia Field’s website for quite some time, and they have always intrigued me. Although I found them completely pointless (unless you are dialing a disgusting payphone), I also found them extremely fascinating — but why? They look kind of funny and they don’t keep you warm … what’s the appeal?

Because my voice of reason spoke louder than my strange fashionable fascination, I kept my $32 in my wallet where it belongs.

Fast forward to today. I was visiting FabSugar.com where I saw more photos from the upcoming Sex and the City movie. What was Carrie wearing? Uh-huh, fingertip gloves. What was she doing? She was dialing a dirty New York City payphone.

Suddenly fingertip gloves are a bit more appealing. But the question is … would you wear them?

Styles that Stick: Black Turtleneck

audrey hepburn turtleneckWhen an article of clothing dates back to the 15th century and is still around today, I would say that it is a style that sticks. The turtleneck sweater’s origin is pretty spotty but we do know its original purpose was to keep people warm.In the 1890s the turtleneck sweater was seen all over town, specifically when people were riding this fancy new contraption called a bicycle. Soon after the turtleneck sweater became a staple in sailor’s wardrobes to keep them warm while they were on duty. By World War II it became the official uniform of the US Navy; the trend was then taken around the world.

Fast forward to 1950’s when beatniks got a hold of them and rocked the turtleneck with a little black beret turning this simple garment into a cultural staple. Next thing you know fashion icon Audrey Hepburn started wearing a little black turtleneck and the rest is history.

Turtleneck sweaters remain a wardrobe staple today but be warned, you must choose your turtleneck wisely. There is nothing fashionable about wearing a holiday turtleneck or cheap knit turtleneck from Wal-Mart. Opt for a black cashmere turtleneck, you will look effortlessly chic and it will last you a lifetime.

Diddy vs. Mariah, perfume challenge ‘07

diddy vs mariahWho doesn’t love a celebrity feud, especially one that is totally pointless? Hip-hop star Diddy (P. Diddy, Puff Daddy … whatever) is challenging fellow musician Mariah Carey to a perfume challenge.

“I send out a challenge…I challenge all of my female counterparts that have fragrances…that my fragrance is better than theirs. I’m a man and I know how women should smell!” - Diddy

Sounds to me like he is challenging every bottle of perfume on the market, not just Mariah. Well, Mariah took it personally (read: needed publicity) and issued the following response:

“I heard about this competition, and I wish Puff all the best with his new fragrance, but I think we’re actually appealing to different types of women. M by Mariah Carey is about being unforgettable, not unforgivable. It’s not about a ménage à trois or a one night stand, it’s for the woman who wants the man to fall in love with her immediately, stay in love, and treat her like royalty.” - Mariah

Ah yes, perfume that makes a man fall in love with you - yeah Mariah that is what we are looking for. I think both Diddy and Mariah will fail miserably. I don’t want to smell like a rap video and I certainly don’t want to smell like a crazy person who can’t dress. I will stick to my L.A.M.B perfume by Gwen Stefani. Now that is a fragrance.

Coming soon: Style A to Zoe

Style A to Zoe

Can a 70 lb woman who has a complexion which resembles that of a raisin dole out fashion advice? Probably not.

Unless, of course, her name is Rachel Zoe. Then she can serve as much advice as she wants.

Zoe’s boho-chic style and shrinking clients (Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan) catapulted her into the public eye and has turned her into a fashion authority. Rachel Zoe has decided to share her expertise with the world by writing her first book which is hitting shelves October 3rd.

Zoe’s book Style A to Zoe spills insider tips on how to live a fashionable life. The book focuses on must-have accessories, wardrobe staples, when to splurge and when to save, how to decorate, entertain, and travel in style. She even taps into her fashionable friends for this book including: Michael Kors, Donatella Versace, and Diane von Furstenberg.

As much as Rachel Zoe makes me sick, I love her at the same time. I plan on picking up the book once it hits shelves. Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, & Everything Glamour $24.99

Kelly Osborne’s $2,400 laundry bag

Kelly Osborne's expensive laundry bagThis past Spring Louis Vuitton (the world leader in absurdly overpriced bags), premiered these enormous, checkered plastic totes as part of their collection. They look practical, straightforward — probably good for carrying clothes to the laundromat or groceries home from the supermarket.

Except the bags cost £1,200 (about $2,400).

What crazy person would pay such a ridiculous amount for a $5 plastic laundry bag, simply because it’s adorned with a Luis Vuitton stamp?

Why, Kelly Osborne, of course! They 22-year-old rocker was recently spotted carrying the tote when leaving her London apartment. As you can see in the photo, Kelly looks confused — just like I would be if I’d paid $2,995 extra for something just because it once appeared on a runway.

Keira Knightley hates the red carpet

Keira KnightleyWhen you see all those movie premieres, awards shows, and gala events, it sure seems like those celebrities are having a good time posing for all the cameras in their latest designer outfits. But at the end of the day, this is just part of the their job, so it shouldn’t be entirely surprising that some of them can’t stand it.Like Keira Knightley, for instance, who tells Allure magazine: “I absolutely hate red carpet events. …I have self esteem issues. Everybody does. You know, skinny people are allowed to feel sh** about themselves [too].”

So next time you’re having an off day and all your clothes look wrong, or you see a photo of yourself and freak, don’t worry — even the most attractive people in the world are self-conscious about how they look.

Kate Moss starts haircare range with James Brown

Kate MossUh, no. Not that James Brown. (He’s dead, remember?)The James Brown launching a new haircare line with supermodel Kate Moss is actually a hair stylist. Moss and Brown are releasing their shampoos, conditioners and whatever else to the public on October 1st — but if you really can’t wait another week, enter this competition on the James Brown site, and you could win a set of the products to try out before they appear in the stores.

While Moss’ generally stringy, heroine chic coiffure doesn’t really seem like it should be inspiration for an entire haircare line, the products will apparently be filled with nettle, watercress, white tea, wheatgerm, and Murumuru butter (which all sound very pleasant) — plus, they’ll have a woodland scent. Yum.
