What is the LG VX10000?

We’re going to go ahead and venture that this VX10000 (yes, as in ten thousand) from LG that just hit the FCC is bound for Verizon, thanks to the “VX” prefix. That’s about all we can gather, though. Pay no mind to the shape of the phone in the diagram here — it’s a generic picture that LG uses to identify the ID label for every single one of its phones that it submits with the FCC. If anything, we suppose it could be a successor to the VX9900; LG ran plumb out of numbers and was forced into five-digit territory. Thoughts?

Sprint slips some LG LX260 details

So the good news is that this upcoming LG LX260 for Sprint looks pretty trick from the microscopic image we’ve been able to grab — nifty blue and black color scheme, QWERTY slide — pretty much what we were expecting from the rendering floating around a while back. That’s all well and good. What isn’t good, though, is that Sprint’s developer site also reveals the the device won’t have anything more than 1xRTT to push bits and bytes around. Given the nifty form factor, EV-DO seems like a foregone conclusion to us, but we suppose that’ll go a long way toward keeping pricing in the double digits on contract. Other juicy tidbits confirmed here include a 220 x 176 display, 64MB of RAM, 64MB of ROM with microSD expansion, and a 1.3 megapixel cam. Fourth quarter, here we come!

Verizon getting Motorola RAZR 2 V9m on August 29?

How refreshing is this? Despite initial promises of September for its own version of the V9m, it now looks like Verizon will be offering up the hotly anticipated (or at least Motorola wants it to be hotly anticipated) successor to the RAZR starting August 29 on the ‘nets. That’ll apparently be followed by an in-store launch on September 4, giving Sprint just about the shortest exclusivity period ever. AT&T, we don’t suppose you have any August surprises for us too, do ya?

Qwest picks up HTC S720 as “Fusion”

If our brief time with the GSM variant (the S710 Vox) is any indication, Qwest subscribers should be pretty freakin’ stoked about this. The regional carrier has just picked up HTC’s S720 Libra, the CDMA radioed version of the manufacturer’s slide-out QWERTY smartphone rocking Windows Mobile 6 Standard. The naming is a little confusing — Qwest calls it the “Fusion HTC 5800″ — but whatever they want to call it, it’s pure gold by HTC and Windows Mobile standards. The spec sheet tells of a 2 megapixel cam, A2DP, microSD expansion, and EV-DO all packed into a pleasantly compact (we know from our experiences with the Vox) shell. Grab it now for two bills on contract.

Motorola day: Verizon gets Q9m, Sprint gets V9m

As expected, Verizon and Sprint have given Motorola a venue for its latest and greatest hardware today, releasing the Q9m Windows Mobile smartphone and RAZR 2 V9m flip respectively. Though the media centric Q9m’s $350 price on a two-year contract ain’t exactly pocket change, it’s interesting to note that it whittles right down to a more manageable $250 after rebate — a mere $20 more than you’ll pay for an old school Q Black. Meanwhile, minions from the other side of the CDMA camp (yes, we mean Sprint) have prepped the V9m for launch today at the same $250 price point after rebate, making it the first of several US carriers committed to a RAZR 2 launch to actually get it out of the door. If everything goes the way we expect it to, both of these devices will land on the other carrier in the next few weeks, so the “grass is greener on the other side” effect should be kept to a bare minimum here.

Sprint’s roadmap for remainder of ‘07 outed, too?

Following a thorough run-through of Verizon’s plans for the rest of the year, this broader peep into Sprint’s near future than we’ve seen before — if real, anyway — means that we now pretty much know everything there is to know about the wide world of CDMA here in the States for the next few months. It’s a warm, fuzzy feeling, ain’t it? Anyway, let’s have a look: Palm is said to come swinging in with two, the 500 on the low end with a $99 price point on October 14 and an 800w (”w” stands for Windows Mobile 6 here, friends) up top — though the latter doesn’t grace shelves until Q1 of ‘08. Novatel gets down with an updated version of the U720 dubbed U727 (what else?) come September 30. Sanyo meanwhile should add the S1 candybar to replace the SCP-4930 on October 14, but November 4 is allegedly when things really start to heat up. That day should bring the LG LX260, RIM BlackBerry Pearl 2, HTC Vogue, and the UTStarcom PX-00, a low-cost Rev A data card to replace the PX-500. The Motorola Q9c — possibly with GSM international roaming — should drop by a little later in November, while a dual-mode CDMA / GSM rendition of the Samsung BlackJack replaces the IP-830w early next year. Again, this is all unconfirmed, but it seems plausible enough. We’ll throw up any corroborating info as we get it.

Sprint event showcases CDMA Touch, LG Rumor, and more

If you’ve been patiently awaiting details about, well, a whole slew of handsets, chances are that a recent Sprint event held the answers to a-many of those very questions. First up was the Palm Centro (also coined Gandolf and Treo 800), which you’ve already seen plenty of earlier today. Moving on, the Sprint Touch (read: CDMA) was said to be rockin’ a potent 400MHz CPU, and it also touted EV-DO, 128MB of RAM, a two-megapixel camera, built-in GPS “to be activated in a Rev A upgrade,” and a likely launch date in November. Furthermore, an EV-DO BlackBerry Pearl was on display along with a “petite candybar” from Sanyo, the sliding LG Rumor, and the Sprint Airave home cell site (once known as the Samsung Ubicell). We know you’re craving the dirt on all of the aforementioned gizmos, so be sure and hit the read link for the full skinny.

LG says “Aloha” to Virgin Mobile

Pardon the pun — it can’t be helped. Virgin Mobile is known for keeping its handsets on the lower end, owing largely to the fact that the MVNO does the lion’s share of its business with prepaid accounts (read: contract-free phones). In fact, two of its existing clamshells lack an external display — a nearly standard feature on all but the most inexpensive flips — so it comes as no surprise that the newly-introduced LG Aloha is in the same vein. Features include a color display, speakerphone, and support for up to 199 contacts, but that’s about it — if you need a camera or Bluetooth, look elsewhere. Grab it starting in September for $34.99.

Verizon releases retro-tastic CDM-8905

Anyone yearning to relive the glory days of 2004 need look no further than Verizon’s “new” CDM-8905, a flip with pretty much nothing to offer but a low price. The UTStarcom-sourced piece delivers cute little 128 x 128 internal color and monochrome external displays, speakerphone, vibrating alert, and that’s about it. Really, one need look no further than the aerial antenna to understand what this phone’s all about. Who knows, maybe it has terrific reception? Grab it now for $20 on a two-year contract.

Verizon’s roadmap for remainder of ‘07 gets liberated

phoneArena scored a wealth — nay, a veritable cornucopia of information detailing Verizon’s releases for the rest of 2007, and we can say with some confidence that there’s something in here for everyone. Starting with smartphones, SMT5800, XV6800, Samsung i760, and Motorola Q9m should hit in October, October, September, and August (yay, this month!) respectively. A second, business oriented variant of the Q9, dubbed the Q9c, will follow on in the fourth quarter. If Windows Mobile ain’t your cup of tea, have a gander at the Palm Treo 755p and RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 (pictured), both coming in November. There isn’t much to say about the 755p that hasn’t already been said, but the 8130 is indeed a Pearl of the “new” variety, upping the cam to 2 megapixels while adding A2DP and a 3.5mm jack. Turning to dumbphones, Verizon’s got the full spread from low to high end. The Samsung U410, self-branded CDM-8630 and LG VX8350 all appear to be pretty simple flips coming some time this half of the year. The Motorola Z6c looks to be a MediaFLO-less version of the Z6tv slider; the former drops in November while the latter is nebulously scheduled for the second half. Finally, the fancy U700 and U900 flips from Samsung offer 2 and 3 megapixel cams, respectively, and will both be available before the year’s out. Whew!
