Damien Hirst designs for Levi’s

Damien Hirst's design for Levi's If you’re not into modern art, you’re probably thinking, “Damien who?”

Here’s a quick rundown: Damien Hirst is a pretentious post-modern artist/oddball who cuts apart cows, puts the pieces in aquariums, and sticks ‘em in a gallery. He’s more-recently famous for creating a diamond-covered cast of a human skull priced at $99 million.

So what would a guy like this do with a pair of Levi’s?

While you might expect something gruesome, gothic, or totally lame “avant garde,” the artist’s creation is actually fairly straightforward and, in my humble, non-artistic opinion, a pretty obvious choice. Hirst takes a normal pair of black denim jeans, and grafted them with little crystal skulls.

Um…great.

There’s more to come at New York Fashion Week, but if this is any indication, I wouldn’t hold your breath.
