This past Friday, your Styledash team hit up the GenArt Fresh Faces in Fashion event in Los Angeles, which we’ll be writing about in more detail later. We were introduced to a few relatively new names in fashion, and one of them is Christian Weber, who was most recently at BCBG Max Azria and Rock & Republic before starting his own line in 2006.The gold long sleeve minidress is part of Christian Weber’s Fall 2007 Collection, aptly named “Arms and Armor” for the permanent exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
How perfect is this dress for either a night on the town with the ladies, or dressed up a little more for a swanky Holiday party?
Wearing lipstick? Careful, more than half the brands on the market were recently found to contain lead. This according to a new report from the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, highlighted in a post on our partner site, Green Daily. The study actually found lead in 61% of the lipsticks they tested, and in one third of those cases, the products contained more lead than what the FDA allows in candy, which, seeing as lipstick gets ingested, is pretty gross.
Because the FDA doesn’t have a set limit for lead in lipstick, there’s no incentive for companies to keep it out of their products, much less tell you if it’s in there in the first place. Subsequently, it’s hard for consumers to tell what’s safe and what’s not since popular brand names like Cover Girl, L’Oreal and Christian Dior were implicated.
The good news is that you can see the full report, including the amount of lead the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found in each lipstick on the organization’s website.
I’ve been hating on my jeans lately. Not just because it’s 8,000 degrees here in Austin and wearing them makes my legs feel like they’re melting, but also because they never fit right — which, in weather like this, is incredibly uncomfortable.
On the rare occasion I find a pair that manages to fit around my waist without expanding to balloon-like proportions after they’re worn, they inevitably are too short, or make me look like I have 80s mom hips. I don’t like to admit that I think about how my butt looks in pants, but when it’s this bad, I can’t help but demand that something — anything — be done to remedy this dire situation.
Enter UJeans. It’s a Toronto-based company that offers custom-made jeans, created with a 11-point fit system that you measure yourself. You just send in the numbers and voila! Back comes a perfect-fitting pair of jeans.
What makes UJeans even cooler is that all their stuff is made from sustainable cotton, which is dyed with natural minerals and enzymes. You’ll not only get a great pair of jeans, you’ll be doing your part to reduce your impact on the environment. What more could you ask for?

I’ll bet they have a dress code at your work, and I’ll bet it’s lame. Unless you work someplace stodgy, it’s probably business casual, which means khakis, and polos, and khakis, and polos, and khakis, and polos into infinity. Bleh.In response to the increasingly casual workplace, many guys are wearing neckties — even though they don’t have to.
But now that it’s not required, it’s a style statement — at least, that’s according to NY Times, which asserts that all the cool kids at ad agencies, art galleries, and hipster bars are bringing back the tie back big time.
But be careful which tie you choose. If you try to pull off the power tie of yore, you’ll look like a douche bag. But if you try something more understated — like, say, the Psycho Bunny tie I pointed out last week — you’ll look like a man’s man who knows how to look good.

Of all the industries you’d expect to see influencing mainstream men’s fashion, the military isn’t high on the list. Not to knock the armed forces, but those uniforms are designed for combat, not looking cool.
However, some of the shapes, colors and finer details commonly associated with military apparel have made their way into menswear this fall. Check out the epaulets on this jacket by Theory. Normally, they’re used to distinguish rank amongst soldiers, here they’re used to add a little accent to an otherwise straightforward jacket. Also check out this jacket from Ralph Lauren. No way would a civilian would ever need that many pockets — unless, apparently, he’s trying to be fashion-forward. And then the most obvious is by far this necklace from David Yurman that’s shaped exactly like a dog tag.
So stand at attention men! And when you start to expand your wardrobe this fall, look to the military for a little inspiration.

Not everything that’s cool in its own right deserves to be combined. For instance, I love eating ice cream. I love watching TV. I would not love eating my television.Apparently this was not so obvious to whoever designed these Manolo Blahnik Dark Denim Kiddies. While I’m as enamored with my Converse Allstars as the next person, and would probably dig having a denim pair, turning them into $699 pointy-toed heels (currently on sale at $299 — I wonder why) was the dumbest fashion mistake I’ve seen since Louis Vuitton tried pawning his $2,400 laundry bag off on hapless celebrities like Kelly Osborne.
But maybe I’m being harsh. After all, I don’t wear heels, so ladies, this is really your problem, not mine.

Gossip Girl just might be the hottest TV show of the season. If you aren’t familiar with it, Gossip Girl is a show about a bunch of spoiled rich high school kids who live like adults. As ridiculous as the show’s premise is, like junk food, it is addictive. I can’t seem to get enough of the clothes on the show.
Apparently, StyleDash readers can’t get enough either, so we’re putting together “Gossip Girl Looks.” Inspired by what is on the screen, we look to real-life brands and stores. Today’s look is Serena’s prep school look:
Yes, it is official. This fall season, the jersey minidress has replaced the shirtdress as my functional fashion in my wardrobe. I used to wear shirtdresses all the time to work because they had a professional look with a collar, but still let me feel like a lady because it’s a dress.
Professional-looking though it may be, the shirtdress is uncomfortable with it’s stiff materials and the fear of popping a button in an embarrassing place. I sit in a chair all day. When I’m at work, I grind. I need to be comfortable, and since wearing a tracksuit to work isn’t really an option, I’m sticking with jersey dresses, like the Pleated Jersey Scoopneck Dress by Sweet Pea. Though it’s a minidress, the long sleeves are fit for the season. The pleating and lack of waistline make it an easy wear for sitting at a desk for 12 hours straight. It also comes in black.
Available from Bluefly for $54.

Weblogs is one big bloggy family, and we’re getting bigger! If you haven’t already noticed the announcement at the top of the page, we’ve just launched two new blogs, Aisledash and GreenDaily.
We here at Styledash are pretty excited about Aisledash, partly because it’s name rhymes with ours, and partly because weddings, whether you love them or hate them, are still always a great excuse to get dressed up. Of course, if you’re planning on getting married, Aisledash is a great resource for all things wedding.
Sure, Styledash blogs about eco-friendly fashion, but GreenDaily is our family’s first blog dedicated entirely to green living, whether it’s grocery shopping, driving, and of course, our favorite, fashion.
